Today, we announced Our Next Energy (ONE) has achieved an important milestone with BMW Group – our team fitted a BMW iX with our Gemini dual-chemistry battery architecture and it achieved 608 miles on a single charge on a WLTP test cycle. When Our Next Energy was founded just over three years ago, it might not have been readily apparent that offering a battery with 2x the range made sense. But as more and more of my friends in the media have experienced, road trips in EVs can become a real drag due to extended charging times and waiting lines during holidays at crowded chargers. Even worse, some have tried towing with EVs and it can make the situation even more unpalatable. While not needed everyday, Gemini’s extended range is designed to make these experiences not only possible, but enjoyable. The architecture is also intended to significantly lower costs as well, since it relies on abundant materials like iron and our ‘anode-free’ range extender cell eliminates graphite from the cell bill-of-materials. Many of us as consumers make purchase decisions not on everyday needs, but on occasional needs. Gemini can offer customers the choice they need as a premium battery option for EVs and allow an EV to become a primary vehicle, not just a commuter. We have more work to do but this technology can be exactly what is needed to overcome some of the market adoption challenges that have been reported so extensively. Nick, how many cycles can the pack achieve when using the higher density cells for extended ranges?

Wow. That is 972km. Longer range than gasoline. Good for countries like Australia with continental distances.

That’s remarkable achievement on mileage. Would you be able to give more data on cycle life and capacity with this new approach as mentioned in here? “our ‘anode-free’ range extender cell eliminates graphite from the cell bill-of-materials.”

Just let this sink in: achieving a 2x range battery partnership with BMW Group within three years of its founding - this is revolutionary stuff! Well done Mujeeb Ijaz & Our Next Energy (ONE) 👏👏👏

Nick Twork, How do you see this technology impacting the electric vehicle industry in the coming years?

well done Our Next Energy (ONE) Team!

Congratulations on the milestone achievement with BMW

Congrats ONE! While massive innovations in material science will be required in battery chemistry to enable the true EV transition, it is innovations like this in pack configurations tbat will continue to accelerate the adoption curve. Nice work, ONE!
